What is Migraine Headache
Migraine is a severe one-sided headache sometime associated with nausea, vomiting or even temporary one-sided paralysis. There are lots of headache causes.
Migraine Headache Symptoms:
- It occurs one-side of head
- Burning pain in and around one eye
- Eyes may look red and watery
- There is a difficulty in vision
- Loss in appetite
- Feeling to sleep more
Migraine Headache Causes:
It is often preceded by an “aura” such as visual disturbance or a feeling of elation. The many triggers include stress, bright or flashing light, loud noise, the Pill, premenstrual hormone changes, certain weather, hunger and food sensitivity (most often to chocolate, cheese, milk, oranges, alcohol or wheat)
Cluster Headache:
Occurs in groups over two months, last about an hour and occur up to ten times in a day. Each causes burning pain in and around one eye; the affected eye may may look red and watery and have a drooping lid. The nose may be congested. Triggers include cigarette smoke and drinking alcohol or coffee.
Chronic Daily Headache:
Occurs most days. There is an almost constant background headache, punctuated by worse pain. These headaches often result from painkillers taken for migraines, tension headaches or neck or head injury.
Other Cause of Headache:
Include a fever, a hangover, toothache, sinus infection, food sensitivity, noise, a stuffy room, dehydration, very high blood pressure and rarely a brain tumor.
Warning:
Consult your doctor urgently for pain in the temple or neck: pain in the temple may indicate a potentially dangerous condition called temporal arteritis; pain in the neck may indicate meningitis. Both needed treatment at once.
The biggest reason of migraine is the changes in blood vessels. Other reason include –
- Alcohol consumption
- Low Blood Sugar
- Remain hungry or empty stomach for a long time
- Sometimes some fragrance
- Some Physical or emotional tension
- Insomnia
- Smoking
- Hormonal Changes
Migraine Headache Treatment:
Massage:
Relieve a tension headache by kneading and smoothing your scalp and neck muscles, particularly any tender lumps or points. Try a reflexology treatment: press along the sides and top of each big toe with both thumbs for five minutes.
Acupressure:
To help relieve a migraine, press between your eyebrows for 15 seconds. For any headache, press in the hollows at the base of the skull between the front and back neck muscles, behind the bony prominence behind the ear for 15 seconds each.
Hot and Cold Therapies:
A cold shower, compress or ice pack on the head may relieve migraine. You could also buy a special hood that you fill with water and keep ready in the refrigerator. Some headache respond better to heat.
Food and Drink:
- Ease tension headache with more foods rich in calcium and magnesium.
- To help prevent Migraine, eat a good balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats,
- Have oily fish three times a wee
- Drink a cup of ginger tea once or twice a day
- Identify any food sensitivities
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Eat at least five kinds of fruits and vegetables every day.
Eye Care: Glasses with lenses of an individually chosen colored tint (such as certain blues, greens or orange) prevent some migraines.
Meditation and Yoga: Lots of Yoga asana helps in treating migraine.
Physical Exercise: Exercise daily and regularly
Take a proper Sleep and switch off the lights while sleeping

Quit Smoking and reduce Alcohol consumption. If possible, Stop drinking alcohol.
